SPORT RELIEF

14th MARCH 2008

On Friday 14th March, the whole school took part in an active day to raise money for Sport Relief. The day started with a sponsored run. Mr Webb and Mr Conlan, who are running the Paris marathon in April, talked to us about running long distance and then ran with us. Some children ran three miles. We then took part in a range of workshops throughout the day working with different teachers. We found out about how the money we raised would help people in the UK and other countries. See more pictures here and for more information visit the website www.sportrelief.com.

CLASS 3 AT WAR

On Tuesday 4th March, Class 3 travelled back in time to experience what life was like during World War Two. The class visited The Steam Museum in Swindon. All the children and staff entered into the spirit of things wearing 1940s dress. During the day the children were evacuated, discovered what life was like on the home front and experienced an air raid. It was a fantastic day out for all! See more pictures here.

PROMOTING READING

Over this term we aim to produce several information booklets for parents relating to different areas of the curriculum. These booklets are designed to explain to parents how aspects of the curriculum may be taught and give helpful suggestions on the ways in which children can be supported in their learning at home.

Download the first of our information booklets on READING here.

HEDGE PLANTING

27 NOVEMBER 2007

On Tuesday 27th November, the whole school took part in a hedge planting day. We planted a low level hedge along the fence between the school field and the recreation ground. This hedge is made up of Hawthorn, Dogwood, Hazel, Wayfaring Tree, Guelder Rose, Spindle and Field Maple. We have used a range of natural species, as we aim to use this hedge to support the development of the outdoor curriculum. All classes were involved with planting during the day. A big thank you to those parents who came to help. We look forward to watching our hedge grow and change over the seasons and years.  More pictures can be found here.

On Thursday 18th October, an Ofsted inspector called at our school. He watched lessons in every class, spent lots of time talking to children and talked with Mr Smith for a very long time. We have now received the report which states that, ‘Brize Norton is a good school with some outstanding features. The pupils really like coming to school because '...everyone is so friendly' and the '...teachers are always there to give you help when you need it'. Pupils' personal development and provision for their care, support and guidance are outstanding.’ Read the full report here.

STEPPING BACK IN TIME

On Friday 19th October, Class 4 stepped back in time to conclude our topic about the 1960s. We all dressed in fashions from the decade and looked really cool! Parents were invited to a class assembly and class workshop. We celebrated our Imagine poetry, John Lennon biographies, Warhol art work and 1960s dance. We all had an enjoyable day. See our photos here.

RECYCLING AT BRIZE NORTON

Help the environment and raise money for our school by recycling. Office materials that normally end up in the bin - toner and printer cartridges, and old mobile phones - can be recycled to raise valuable cash for us. So if you are guilty of
throwing away old inkjet cartridges and other recyclable office materials, read on here!

HARVEST FESTIVAL

On Wednesday 10th October, we celebrated Harvest Festival at St Britius Church. All of the children from Reception to Year 6 took part sharing songs, poems, prayers and art work. Children gave contributions of foods which we have donated to The Porch, in Oxford, a shelter for the homeless.  Photos can be found in our gallery.
